Weekly Update: June 4, 2015

Our third market at Bigelow Marine Park, and we hope you are enjoying the change of scenery. We have a new market manager, too: Natasha Miskovsky. Do come and say hello.

This week the Vela Foundation joins us at the market to introduce Rooting For Health, its new nutrition education program. Using greens plucked from the market, the Vela team will do a fun show-and-tell on salad as a meal, and how quick and fast it is to make a dressing at home. Pick up a how-to card and learn more about the Vela Foundation and its mission to promote access to fresh healthy food.

Machaca Charters will be selling day-boat fish from its dock at Charter Boat Row.

What to expect at the farmers market: plenty of tender leafy greens, including huge heads of lettuce, spinach, bags of mixed greens, arugula, pea greens, micro-greens, as well as sturdier chards, kales and mustard greens. There will be asparagus, mushrooms, radishes, green garlic, scallions, lots of potted herbs, lemongrass—plus young heirloom tomato plants and vegetable starts for the garden.

You’ll also find eggs—including duck eggs—cheeses, bread, baked goods, those wicked apple-cider doughnuts, salad dressing, jams and jellies, honey, sweet confections, coffee, refreshing bottled juices from The Local Juice, this week’s local wine, pretty flowers, as well as botanical oils and soaps. Compost.
