How to get the most from your SNAP benefits at the Falmouth Farmers Market
Please come and see us at the green Farmers Market info tent. We love to help you get the most out of your SNAP benefits at the Market and we don’t mind explaining the program to you at all!
1. You can use your EBT card directly at Moonlight Rose Farm and Silverbrook Farm. These two farms participate in the HIP program!
HIP puts money back on your EBT card* when you use SNAP to buy healthy, local fruits and vegetables from HIP farm vendors. *up to a monthly cap of $40, $60, or $80
There is no special sign-up for HIP. If you live in Massachusetts and get SNAP benefits, your household is automatically able to participate in HIP.
2. Swipe your EBT card at the green Farmers Market Info tent to get wooden coins to spend on any eligible food items. You will receive up to a $10 bonus towards fruits and veggies at the Market!
Use these smaller wooden coins ($1 & $2 denominations) for any SNAP eligible food items (see below) at the Market:
Any food for the household, such as:
- Fruits and vegetables;
- Meat, poultry, and fish;
- Dairy products;
- Breads and cereals;
- Other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages; and
- Seeds and plants, which produce food for the household to eat.
Households CANNOT use SNAP benefits to buy:
- Foods that are hot at the point of sale.
- Cold prepared foods. If more than 50% of what a firm sells are heated foods, hot foods, and/or cold prepared foods, then that firm is considered a restaurant. Other than the states that operate a Restaurant Meals Program, restaurants are not eligible for SNAP authorization as retail food stores.
- Any nonfood items such as:
– Pet foods
– Cleaning supplies, paper products, and other household supplies.
– Hygiene items, cosmetics
Use the larger wooden coins ($2.50 denomination) for FRUITS and VEGGIES only. These are bonus tokens from our partnership with Sustainable CAPE.
