Finally, July has arrived with July 4th celebrations and glorious beach days.  Come down to the Falmouth Farmers’ Market early for all the bounty of the season: greenhouse tomatoes, sugar snap peas, strawberries and all sorts of greens.  Grass fed beef, free range chicken eggs, artisanal cheeses and an array of handmade savory and sweet products to cut down your time in the kitchen as well as please your palate.  There is something for everyone at the market overlooking Falmouth Harbor.

Here is some of what you can find this Thursday:

Pies a la Mode is back with all sorts of seasonal fruit pies such as strawberry rhubarb, blueberry and single serve apple tarts, as well as frozen savory pies.  Bring something home to feed those hungry house guests!

Get local, ripe strawberries, big bunches of kale, Savoy cabbage, scapes, locally tapped syrup and fresh eggs from Pariah Dog Farm. 

Allen Farm is certified organic out of Westport, MA.  They offer salad mix, tender pea greens, sugar snap peas, and potted herbs.  Their trailing and jewel mounded nasturtiums make a great addition to any kitchen table.  Arrive early to get some first of the season tomatoes grown in their greenhouses.

Arrive at lunch time to enjoy Stir Crazy Healthy Street Food.  Light and flavorful Cambodian dishes featuring mango, cucumber, basil and toasted coconut.  Try out their vegan sushi!

Tina’s Terrific Plants still has assorted herb and vegetable plants to put in your garden: cilantro, basil, sage and German chamomile, eggplant, sweet and hot peppers, too!  Don’t forget to plant some flowers: Black Eyed Susan and Mrs. Mars dwarf sunflowers in a glorious shade of merlot will brighten up any yard or garden.

Silverbrook Farm has free range chicken and duck eggs, greens and sugar snap peas. Fresh strawberries from their farm in Dartmouth, MA as well as beets, radishes and early peas.  Ask how they cultivate their array of mushrooms and pick up a pound or two to roast or grill.

Donde Thiago makes handmade arepas out of fresh corn flour that are naturally gluten free.  They are filled to order with such ingredients as chorizo, pork chop, pineapple, plantains and an assortment of cheeses.  Pick up some empanadas to keep in your freezer for a late night snack or a last minute gathering.

Speaking of parties and entertaining: Lilac Hedge Farm offers an abundance of choices from hamburgers and hotdogs to baby back ribs and their popular NY strips, flank steaks and rib eyes.  100% grass fed, pasture raised meats. Pick up a variety to enhance your gathering!

If you are visiting friends or hosting guests, pick up the perfect gift at Green Goddess Herbals.  Cape Cod Beach hand soap, Goat’s Milk lotions in a variety of scents and world famous shampoo bars that are compact for travel and keep packaging at a minimum are among many choices.  

You can find the most delicious chocolaty cupcakes, granola, fruit leather as well as gluten free, vegan and traditional sweet and savory items at Peck O’ Dirt Farm.  Rumor has it that they will also offer some of their famous scones this week in such flavors as: strawberry rhubarb, blueberry and ginger.

Olio di Melli features aged balsamic vinegars of Modena Italy.  Il Lago extra virgin olive oil is their most popular item and sells out regularly.  Be sure to inquire about the variety of cheeses from local Shy Brothers Farm and Great Hill Blue cheese from Marion, MA.  Creamy Chives and Garlic Cloumage as well as tiny Hannibels are the perfect addition to any cheese platter. Ask about the special running all summer on these tasty delights!

Looking for some bread to go with all that fresh cheese?  Pain D’Avignon brings an assortment to please everyone from baguettes to Pullman and their ever popular Cranberry Pecan sandwich bread, focaccia and rolls.  Pick up some Parmesan Crisps to top off salads and soups and don’t forget to grab something sweet: the Monkey Bread is not to be missed!

Lara’s Cuisine brings a variety of pesto and spreads to top bruschetta, adorn a cheese platter or mix into pasta.  Pesto Picante, Black Olive Pesto and Spicy Sundried Tomato are just a few of their flavors. You can also get some of their handmade dried pasta to round out your meal.

You can’t miss the aroma of fresh apple cider donuts from Michael’s Donuts to take home or nibble on while you shop.  

Stop by Peachtree Circle Farm for all sorts of pickles and jams to add to your Fourth of July celebration: pickled cauliflower with ginger, pickled scapes fresh from the farm, strawberry rhubarb jam, and more!  Carrie also brings big heads of fresh lettuce, kale and beautiful fresh flowers to decorate your home.  

Foss Farm only puts five delicious, fresh ingredients in their pasta sauce.  Stop by to try a sample and bring some home for a quick and easy meal with pasta or as a topping for pizza.

Martha’s Vineyard Smokehouse is back with their selection of smoked fish and spreads.  Try out Smoked Yellowfin Tuna Spread, Smoked Bluefish Spread and other fresh locally smoked fish options.

Arrive early for strawberries from Moonlight Rose. And don’t forget the ever popular alpaca wool dryer balls that reduce drying time (save energy!) as well as zucchini, cucumbers, summer squash and fennel.

Things you can do at the market on Thursday:

Continue to help us divert food scraps from the landfill this year.  Bring your fruit/vegetable scraps, eggs shells and coffee grounds to add them to the self service station adjacent to the market information table.  You can also take home a small bucket to fill and bring back the following week.

The Thursday Falmouth Farmers’ Market opens at noon-no early birds.  It will be open regular hours from 12pm-6pm again, on July 11 through the rest of the season.  There is parking available in the lots adjacent to the park (only vendors may park on the grass).
